The sleeveless coat is a conundrum – on the one hand it has an elongated silhouette which suggests that you would wear it during the cooler months but on the other, the sans sleeve situation indicates that you would wear it when it is warm (or if you want an arm tan). It is a clothing item that leaves non-fashionistas baffled as they are uncertain on when to wear it let alone on how to style it.

The important thing to understand about the sleeveless coat is it is the pièce de résistance of your outfit so build what you are going to wear around it and keep it simple. There is not a right or wrong season to wear it as you can style it to fit in with the seasons (in this case, let’s say we are wearing it for the cold).

When you finally get your head around the sleeveless coat, try

1) layering it with a jumper (like how you would do with a regular coat because you want to keep warm!)
2) adding details such as accessories or statement shoes (to compliment the statement coat and create contrast between the simplicity of the rest of the outfit)
3) owning the coat (because who doesn’t love a bit of that je ne sais qui).
