Because, (wearing) art against art.

Often you hear that such and such designer’s collection has been influenced by an artist or an art movement and often, you fail to see the connection. Raf Simons’ collaboration with artist Sterling Ruby is one of the few where any art reference is literally prevalent and where the collection is wearable (all things considered since Simons silhouette and fabric innovation take a few seasons to become “mainstream” or even never).

Renown for his signature bleach-prints, Sterling Ruby brought his signature art onto shirts, jeans, bags . The collaborators’ love of the punk movement also featured prominently with patches on jackets. While wearing clothes that are bold and blatantly art-influenced like the bleach prints may not be everyone, there are ways of working pieces like these into your minimal (or eccentric) wardrobe that won’t leave others scratching their perplexed heads.

When you are ready to become aesthetically pleasing than be a wallflower, try

1) accentuate the art element by adding texture such as this metallic lurex polo shirt (texture has the ability to add another dimension to an outfit without over-trying)
2) pairing with something rugged and familiar like a leather carryall (this brings your wild sartorial exploration back to earth)
3) accessorising with a pair of optical glasses even if you don’t own prescription (haters gonna hate but you will look smarter and less art wanker)
.
