Because, (who doesn’t love a) rainbow gradient shirt.

A statement shirt is all you need to lift your game and create a little pizzazz in an otherwise ordinary outfit. Statement shirts can come in the form of colours, fabrication, silhouette but most designers use bold prints and graphics to create that visual impact. While it is true that printed shirts can set you apart from your check or stripe wearing friends, the line of picking a print that crosses into bad taste is often fine. After all, according to Karl Largerfeld, “trendy is the last stage before tacky.”

While you can’t buy style (even if you are loaded and own a wardobe full of tailored suits – let’s face it, suits make any and every guy looks good), you can learn the logic in visual appeal and styling. Taste level, though very much an intrinsic thing and even cultural, can fortunately be cultivated from experience, the Internet or from your critical friends (that’s what they are good for so use them to your advantage).

When you step out of your comfort zone and adorn a printed statement shirt that does not fall into bad taste category, try

1) wearing sandals (forgot those haters who insist sandals are only for your fathers – they just haven’t come across a pair that has been made relevant)
2) carrying a man pouch bag (this accentuates your point of difference)
3) sticking to a dapper silhouette (if you look ridiculous, you will still look smart)
