W Hong Kong, part of the W Hotels & Resorts chain, is a boutique, 5-star hotel located in the heart of West Kowloon. Where glamourous trends meet colonial style, W Hong Kong amplifies the buzz of the city both in its location and urban jungle aesthetic.

On our recent trip to Hong Kong, Glenn and I were invited by Stuart Chen of the W Hong Kong marketing team to lunch at Sing Yin Cantonese restaurant and take a tour of the hotel, as he shared details of design concepts and how art pieces fit into the theme of the hotel.

Unlike many hotels where art pieces are simply an after-thought, W hotels are renown for curating artists and art works to enhance the imaginative experience of the hotel. Designed by Yasimuchi Morita of Glamourous and Nic Graham of g+a, W Hong Kong shows off an eclectic collection of art which mimics the energy and vibrancy of the jungle. You can’t help but feel like you are walking through a living art gallery or a simulation that embodies all kinds of adjectives beggining with W – whimsical, wonderful, welcoming and just wow.

As if a visual feast was not enough, Glenn and my gastromy senses were delighted as flawless dim sum were brought out one after another at Sing Yin. The restaurant serves up authentic Cantonese cuisine and the interior of the restaurant has been designed by Steve Leung who cleverly brought the skyline of Hong Kong onto the walls, illuminated to highlight the electrified streets and buildings.

W Hong Kong Kitchen continues with the waggish yet welcoming theme and a wonderful sea view. You are greeted by a white peacock installation which appears to have been fashioned from old bicycles and while you indulge in the the popular buffet which serves up an array of vibrant sweets and gastronomic grandeur, you can challenge yourself by counting the number of white eggs on the golden egg wall.

W Hong Kong has the highest outdoor pool and a poolside on the 76th floor, boasted by immersive skyline and an abstract mural that is engulfing as it is enthralling. This is where pool parties and trendy events occur and while we did not swim (the pool is on the 76th floor and the wind chill factor had us appreciating our snug outerwear more so than ever), Glenn and I knew that it was only a matter of time before we head back for some necessary pool shenanigans.

I am not going to lie – W Hong Kong is Instagram heaven and there is always somewhere and something to snap that will elicit envy and jealousy from your friends. We can’t wait to spend a good few days exploring this vibrant and luxurious hotel and indulge in some whimsical adventure the next time we get back to Hong Kong.
