How To Stand Out With Resort Wear

Dressing up in men’s resort wear is something I look forward to. You’re allowed to show as much skin as you legally can and it signifies the season of extended sunshine, weekend beach getaways and even luxe living, if it involves a tropical holiday where you get to recharge your mind, body and soul.
From linen shirts to modern swim shorts in quick-dry fabrication, straw fedoras to trendy boat shoes, these are the go-to resort wear pieces for guys who want to look chic yet maintain an unpretentious attitude.
Just like trans-seasonal dressing, getting geared in resort wear is about comfort and functionality. But that doesn’t mean you can’t be fashion with pieces that would allow your individuality to shine through. Let’s show you some ways to style up and stand out with your resort wear.

1. Hello statement hat
Nothing says I’m here more than a statement hat. Given that one is already worn as part of most guys’ casual beach attire, elevating your resort wear suddenly becomes an easy game.
So, pick something oversized, with colour or unique detailing but make sure you choose a straw option. Felt, leather or any other material will only make wearing a hat a little sweaty during this time of the year.

2. Layer with over-shirt
While the idea of an extra layer of clothing during warmer months sounds senseless – and mind you, “fashion is always uncomfortable” according to Anna Dello Russo – an over-shirt is a quick way to cement your style status.
Opt for lightweight shirting fabric or cotton jersey material and you can comfortably wear an over-shirt. Tuck it in or knot it up with the top few buttons undone to achieve some James Dean swag.
3. Yes to print clash
Resort wear is perhaps the best style to indulge in print clash where you can mismatch florals with nautical or graphic patterns and not appear like a faux pas.
The entire look appears less severe on shorts or a short sleeve T-shirt. Even when paired with long sleeve tops, you’d still look chic than possibly crossing over to gimmicky.

4. Shine bright with reflection
Just like hats, sunglasses are common accessories already worn during summer or during a tropical holiday. They’re also the instant “make me cool” fashion pieces.
Skip the predictable styles and go for the reflective lenses. They’ve a futuristic vibe, are on trend at the moment and will push your resort style even further.
The bottom line is, have fun! Resort wear is about casual perfection so there’s a lot of room to play with your outfits. You can still be comfortably dressed while standing out from the pack.
