XB OFCL Spring Summer 2018

The collection: Brandon Sun continues a streetwear-inspired deconstruction with the SS18 collection for his new brand, XB OFCL. Shirting with Japanese knots hold the sleeves together as they do on denim and parachute nylon trousers.
Less dystopian than the previous range though politics is still central to the theme, words like “Intentions Shatter” and We Knew From The Start That Shit Falls Apart” are emblazoned across garments.
Pin embellishments, a collaboration with photographer Aldo Carrera, round up waistband, lapels and shirt collars while leather and metal accessories are styled alongside this season.
The outerwear is strong with military-style coats, burgundy leather jackets and metallic silver zip-up track jacket.
The inspiration: Reflecting on his sudden move to Los Angeles early last year, this sophomore collection also explores the current global discord and how things fall apart even when one’s intentions are pure. The knot detailing signifies a connection that ties people together.
The brand: Designer Brandon Sun was awarded “Designer of the Year” at Parsons School of Design in 2006 and his womens collections – now on hiatus – have been stocked at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Boon the Shop. He carries across a similar vision and focuses on details.
We love: Sun’s strength in deconstruction lies in the military coat this season where sleeves and back panels are held together by Japanese knots, as if to suggest that though the state of things are held thinly by a string, they nonetheless lead to peace and beauty through intelligent reaction.
