Wood House AW17

When one of the models adorned a sweatshirt that says “You don’t want to fuck with this little piggy”, it’s instant that the AW17 luxury athleisure collection from Wood House, presented at New York Fashion Week Men’s would be one of the highlights of the event.
From sweatshirts to parkas and joggers, designer Julian Woodhouse managed to turned these staples into coveted pieces by infusing interesting details. Garments are finished with colour-blocked panels and heavy hardware and drawstrings around the legs give a stylised appearance.
While the show notes raised political concerns – one of the collars was emblazoned with the words “All Choked Up” – Woodhouse also maintained a sense of optimism with bright yellows, pinks and blues. Models also wore chokers where the brand’s name was printed among other accessories.
The AW17 collection is strong on outerwear from bomber jackets to a shiny coat with furry trim to versatile long coats that can be zipped off at the bottom. Trousers are tapered while sleeves are extended on some of the pieces.
This is Wood House’s fifth season and considering his background – he served four years in the military and studied Business in the USA and Spain – he’s found a balance incorporating commercial viability and masculinity while exploring ways of making the garments relevant and interesting.
