Robert Geller SS17
Among the unexpected technicolour pops of pink, lime, coral, there is something romantic about Robert Geller’s SS17 collection. Emphasising the importance of creativity, Geller found inspiration in the wild ‘80s in Berlin, where youths were squatting in buildings waiting to be torn down.
Accentuating positive elements of these raw and provocative times, Geller celebrated its tenacity and creativity. Models were sent down the runway with vibrant hints, juxtaposed against the designer’s predilection of sombre tones. Leopard prints and bold stripes are key prints for this collection, mixed in with casual silhouettes and Geller’s play with proportions.
Oversized button up shirts were paired with elasticated sports shorts while biker vest and tracksuit trousers combination showed a clever contrast, floating between sophistication and casualness. Lightweight outerwear flowed with each movement, creating a je-ne-sais-quoi yet stylish chic.

The authentic experimentation and self expression – key to the artistic upraise in the ‘80s – were prevalent. Neue Welle (New Wave), a musical genre idiosyncratic of that era, also found its way into this range, with influences from Nina Hagen, Einstürzende Neubauten and other German bands.
This SS17 season saw the continued collaboration with footwear brand, Common Projects, where neon accents gave black Oxfords a twist, and classic sunglasses from Garrett Leight tied in a free-spirit attitude. Models also adorned Casio G-Shock G-Steel watches throughout the show.
To truly showcase the independent and creative spirit, jackets were embellished with strategically pinned polaroids and bags take the form of record bags. Nostalgic this collection may be but Geller is a master at sending looks down the runway that are conceptually stylised yet are highly wearable as individual pieces at the same time.
