MJ Bale AW14 The Winter Pursuits Of A Well-Dressed Gentleman
There are only a handful of Australian menswear brand and that number is further reduced when it comes to relevance within the menswear market. M.J. Bale sits successfully in that category, offering supremely tailored, intelligently designed formal and ready to wear garments for discerning gentlemen.
The AW14 collection titled “The Winter Pursuits Of A Well-Dressed Gentleman” sees the brand building an explorer through life concept and championing the idea of winter layering with its knits, outwears and scarves. The swatches in the collection are neutral-toned with pops of colours and New Dandy checks and patterns while luxurious fabrication such as Italian washed cotton, wool flannel and cotton corduroy complete the classic garments. The idea of layering is evident in three-piece options as well as pieces like cable knit wear and cardigans that have been designed to be worn with outerwear as well as on their own.
The AW14 campaign, shot by Hugh Stewart at the Bigga property of a superfine Merino woolgrower, manages to fuse functionality and elegance into each single cinematic image and also highlights the creative vision of the brand. The styling subtly educates the gentlemen into adopting autumnal colours such as forest green and burgundy and to mix knits, scarves, ties and jackets into a mismatched perfection.
What is striking about this collection is not just its wearability but the fact that founder Matt Jensen has designed a collection he knows the dapper conscious would want to wear before they know it themselves. Seeing its strength in understanding the diversity of the menswear market, its relevance and creative direction, it is no wonder M.J. Bale is the go-to brand for many savvy gentlemen.
