Kenneth Ning AW17
For AW17, Kenneth Ning looks to Wall Street for inspiration. “Wall Street meets Main Street,” said Ning. High waisted pants, cropped cuffs and power suits were sent down the runway and while the theme may sound pretentiously corporate, the designer manages to inject his signature sporty and youthful aesthetic.
The collection was presented at New York Fashion Week: Men’s and pink, khaki and pops of yellow are the choice of colours. A soft check jacket redefines the structured overcoat that we are familiar with while business shirts are finished with excess fabrics.
Models are accessorised with straps, belts and socks that contain the label’s name and serial numbers on them, showcasing an imaginative approach to a theme that can be dull. The show also featured the NASDAQ SE composite index on screens that juxtaposed with the models.
Ning moved from San Franciso to New York in 2007 and after honing his craft with the likes of Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, he launched his namesake label in 2014. He continues to innovate on tailoring while merging sports luxe with a cool and youthful aesthetic.
