Julian Zigerli AW17
The AW17 collection, “Me, My Cat and I”, by Swiss designer, Julian Zigerli, is one that represents the guilty pleasures of the heart where we would never admit our deepest desire.
Known for his innovative use of fabrics and prints, this season is no different. Collaborating with Zürich based graphic trio, MOIRÉ, there are checks made with copy machines and a graphically manipulated leopard print with a hidden cat face. The feline element continues with a cat motif sweater and an oversized intarsia knit.
Zigerli rounds up the collection with laser cut techniques, hand embroidery and footwear with the same pattern as outerwear. The versatile collection is composed of cotton, heavy jersey, nylon, corduroy, and wool.
To highlight the theme of the collection, the AW17 presentation during Paris Fashion Week was set in an apartment where models were seen engaging in banal, domestic activities like ordering pizza, playing card games or watching Disney movies.
Zigerli launched his eponymous brand straight after graduating from Berlin University of the Arts and has continued to win accolades as well as awards including the 2012 and 2014 Swiss Design Award. It’s easy to see why with the designer’s unique take on humour and unapologetic approach to fashion.
