The AW16 collection from Julian Zigerli explores the designer’s early life, inspired by the nostalgia family memories of his childhood in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Referencing personal clothing, family photographs, cartoon characters, the range “Larger Than Life” is a creative insight into the vibrant mind of Zigerli.

Using shapes and colours from the era, the flashbacks are translated through rich wool fabrication in bold blues, relaxed silhouettes and digital prints from vintage garments, offering a window into a warm family environment.

Jumpers come in chunky and comfy knits, including matching lounge pants, and suede bags in the shape of animals evoke the idea of childhood memories. Standing out in the collection are the vibrant bomber jackets – in shades of burnt orange, lemon yellow and neon pink – which are reminiscent of highlighter pens used at school.

Born and bred in Switzerland, Zigerli launched his label in Zurich after graduating from Berlin University of the Arts. The label gained Zigerli nominations for the Design Preis Schweiz and the Swiss Design Award which he won in 2012 and 2014.  

The recognition for Zigerli’s works extends to an invitiation from Giorgio Armani himself to show “The One And Only” colleciton at Teatro Armani during Milan Fashion Week. The brand has since continued to showcase new collections at Paris Fashion Week.

The campaign, created by photographer and creative Yves Suter, is a visual diary of mishmash of collages and ties in with the different aspects of the designer’s life. Like Zigerli’s SS16 collection, “Larger Than Life” exudes a youthful and quirky quality that has become synonymous with the brand.
