Amxander SS17

Founded by Jason Alexander Pang and Rong Chen, the SS17 collection (southern hemisphere) by Amxander mixes relaxed silhouettes with symbolic prints. The Australian brand continues to take inspirations from different eras and cultures and blends them together with interesting results.
Titled “YUNQI” – which translates to luck in Chinese – the theme happens to be the opposite of what the duo believes in. This collection, being their 7th, plays around the idea of luck and superstitions through visual concepts.
A camp collar denim blue shirt is finished with a fingers-crossed print while a playful fortune cookie print with the message “Fuck Luck” is the antithesis. Such referential prints are seen throughout the collection, made up of dusty colours that’s reminiscent of the 70s era.
Heavy set fabrics and denim are seen throughout and Pang and Chen threw in shoe laces that are attached through eyelets on a denim jacket for good measure.
Amxander was nominated for the International Woolmark Prize 16/17 and has featured in press from GQ to Harper’s Bazaar. These are testaments that the brand doesn’t need luck.
