Acne Studios Mens AW17
Inspired by the classic businessmen of the 1980s and “New Look” of couture, Acne Studios AW17 collection features striking and influential silhouettes and pops of lilac, coral and bold vertical stripes.
“I realised that businessmen don’t exist anymore, even though the world has chosen business,” Creative Director Jonny Johansson enthuses. “It led me to think about working men in the 80s, and how they fetishised their clothing. I wanted to bring that same respect for fabric and shape to this collection.”
Trousers are worn high and collars are oversized and popped up at the recent presentation. While, on paper, this sounds unstylish – perhaps even reminiscent of what your dad might have considered cool back then – Johansson has once again influenced the nostalgia with relevance and Swedish chic.
Cashmere jumpers are cropped with high v-necks and to further accentuate the play with shapes, pleats are placed in the back. Motifs from products in a gentleman’s store – hounds, golfing diamonds – are embroidered repeatedly on jumpers that zip at the neck.
The AW17 season features sneakers with platform soles and amplified features to echo the volume of tailoring and bags are reimagined as crumpled paper bag from classic issues of Acne Paper in an act of recycling.
Acne Studios has always successfully injected that too-cool-for-school chic into what can be otherwise perceived as mundane or aesthetically unpleasing, and with this collection, they certainly didn’t disappoint. There is lightness and calm in the collection even though there is something quite bold about in this range.
